About Savita singh

Prof. Singh has received several prestigious awards, including the Hindi Academy Award (2017), Raza Foundation Award (2006), Mahadevi Varma Award (2017), Eunice de Souza Award, and Kedar Samman (2023).
Academically, Prof. Singh has taught at Delhi University for over a decade before joining the School of Gender and Development Studies at IGNOU in 2009, where she is now the founding director. She specializes in feminist theories, gender studies, political theory, ecology, and literature. Prof. Singh is recognized as a feminist creative theorist, contributing to a new critical space for women’s writing in Hindi literature.

Her recent publications in feminist political theory include contributions to The Routledge Companion to Indian Ethics (2024) and Reality and Its Depths: A Conversation with Savita Singh and Roy Bhaskar (2020, Springer). She has also contributed to books such as Exploring Indian Modernities (2018, Springer) and Krishna Sobti: A Counter Archive (2022, Routledge).
Prof. Singh’s academic journey includes a post-doctoral research fellowship at the Foundation Maison des Sciences, Paris (2016), where she focused on the works of Krishna Sobti. Her research has been published in both Hindi and English.
In addition to her academic achievements, Prof. Singh has served on various academic bodies and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the International Herbert Marcuse Society (USA) and President of the Association of Creative Theory, Delhi.

She has edited a representative collection of contemporary Women’s poetry in Hindi, Street Pratirodh Ka Swar: Samkaleen Hindi Kavita in 2022.

Her poems have been translated into Indian languages such as Bangla, Marathi, Odia, Maithili and many others.
She has credited a volume of women’s poetry in English from seven continents in Seven Leaves, One autumn.
She was awarded Erudite Scholars Residency by Cochi University.

She was awarded an Erudite Scholar in Residence by Cochi University of Science and Technology where she gave a series of lectures on feminism and Gender Justice She has been coordinating the Creative Theory Colloquium for more than a decade. Also, she is among the core group of scholars and poets curating Chandrabhaga Poetry Festival in Konark.
